The two make an excellent hero and villain. ![]() There is a book about it, Wrestling with Moses, a well-made documentary, Citizen Jane, and an opera, A Marvelous Order, with a libretto written by a Pulitzer Prize winner (I haven’t seen it). The conflict between Robert Moses, czar-like planner of New York City for almost half a century, and Jane Jacobs, ordinary citizen and activist, has become the source of legend. ![]() I picked up this book immediately after finishing The Power Broker, and I highly recommend this sequence to anyone who has the time. This is a common assumption: that human beings are charming in small numbers and noxious in large numbers. ![]()

![]() ![]() I was shocked by how powerful her words are how she uses each word so carefully and meticulously to get her point across, sometimes in ten words or less. ![]() It shows that there is a fire deep within. ![]() The author writes from an honest place in her heart and I admire that deeply. These poems were made to shift your perception into something greater. I had to remind myself to slow down and take in every poem, to appreciate the individual worth of each line, and allow it to speak to my soul. When I first received the book, I flew through the first few poems. She also dives into the conflicts of being a person of color. Nayyirah shares her many experiences in each poem, stating the importance of self-acceptance, identity, and womanhood. Not much is known about this brilliant author, except that she is a woman who demonstrates strong values and self-love. This beautiful collection of work was written by African American poet Nayyirah Waheed. The simple style of the plain white cover with its four bold letters, S-a-l-t, placed at the bottom right corner of the book, a well- known minimalist aesthetic, complements the inside of the book.
